The Story
The woman Scrooge lost — finds herself.
Before Ebenezer becomes the Scrooge we know, he and Belle are young and idealistic — he lending money in the slums where they grew up, she running a free school for girls. But as their engagement stretches on, Belle watches him grow harder and more miserly, while she quietly sacrifices everything for everyone else.
When Belle finally sees how far apart they've become, she breaks the engagement — and begins her own epic journey. She builds a life of genuine purpose, uniting with Arthur Francis, an African-British Abolitionist and factory owner of uncommon generosity. But chance meetings with Ebenezer keep her questioning whether she's truly become who she's meant to be.
Throughout their lives, their bond challenges and transforms them all — with a little help from three mysterious Spirits.
Belle's Christmas Carol reimagines the Dickens universe through the eyes of the woman Scrooge lost — centering those who have always been at the margins of our most beloved stories.
